Kids who come into contact with Farmington Public Safety officers this summer may find themselves in for a treat.

The department has teamed up with Silver Dairy, 32323 Grand River, for “Partners in Our Community,” a community policing initiative. Officers will hand free ice cream cone coupons to kids while on routine patrols, subdivision checks, apartment watch patrols and downtown foot patrols.

“This program is a great opportunity for officers build on an already strong foundation of trust and interaction with the community,” Public Safety Director Frank Demers said in a press release. “We are grateful for our partnership with the Silver Dairy and owner, Jason Smith, for his time and efforts
in getting this program started.”

Demers added praise for Officer Don LaPorte, who worked closely with Silver Dairy to develop and implement the initiative.
