UPDATE: Hills police say fatal shooting at The Retreat apartments not random

UPDATE: Farmington Hills police say they will not yet identify the victim of a fatal Monday morning shooting, at the request of the man’s family.

A second victim remains hospitalized after the early morning incident at The Retreat at Farmington Hills apartments.

“The male murder victim was specifically targeted,” Police Chief Chuck Nebus said late Monday afternoon. “This incident was not a random attack.”

Officers arrived at the complex, which is south of 12 Mile Road and west of Middlebelt, shortly after 1 a.m.  According to a statement released Monday morning, investigators believe the men were shot from outside the apartment through a sliding glass door.

Investigators are obtaining search warrants for the apartment, and evidence technicians are processing the scene. Anyone with information should call the Farmington Hills Police Command Desk, 248-871-2610.

This is a developing story. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
