A group of Farmington area police officers and firefighters gathered December 3 at Target in Farmington Hills to give 21 kids a unique holiday shopping experience.
The annual “Heroes and Helpers” event is hosted by the agencies that comprise the Farmington Hills Police Benevolent Association: Farmington Hills Police Department, Farmington Hills Fire Department, Farmington Department of Public Safety, and Franklin-Bingham Farms Police Department.
A $2,000 grant from Target and a $4,250 donation from the Farmington Hills Police Benevolent Association allowed each child a one-on-one, hour-long $250 shopping spree with an officer. Farmington Youth Assistance assisted in identifying and selecting the children and families and also provided each child with a gift bag.
After the event, four more children were identified to receive $250 Target gift cards to help fulfill their holiday wishes and provide support for their families.
“Heroes and Helpers” events are hosted in about 250 communities, affecting more than 15,000 children and their families.
