Detroit man arrested in connection with Farmington STEAM Academy crash

Farmington Hills Police arrested a 74-year-old Detroit man last week, after he crashed his vehicle into the front of the Farmington STEAM Academy on 12 Mile Road.

Assistant Chief Dan Rodriguez said the accident happened on Christmas night. The man was not injured; he faces a charge of driving a vehicle while intoxicated.

Diane Bauman, spokesperson for Farmington Public Schools, said the car broke a structural column that held up a canopy over the school entrance. A temporary repair completed over the holiday break made the area safe for students and families, as determined by a structural engineer, she said.

Final repairs will be made in the spring.
