Cipriano Classic to help family recovering from tragedy

For an 8th year, friends and supporters of the Cipriano family will gather at the Farmington Family YMCA in Farmington HIlls for a 5K Fun Run & Walk to help a family recovering from tragedy.

Cipriano Classic

Tucker Cipriano and his friend Mitchell Young are serving life sentences for the 2012 attack that left Tucker’s father, Robert Cipriano, dead, and his mother, Rose, and brother, Sal, with life-threatening injuries. The run raises funds for the Cipriano Children’s Trust, which covers costs of medical and other treatments.

The 2017 race raised more than $38,000; last year’s donations totaled more than $31,000.

Runners in the 1 Mile will start at 6:30 p.m., and the 5K starts at 7 p.m. Both races move through residential neighborhoods, and the start and finish lines are at the YMCA.

A statement from the family notes that Sal looks forward to “running even further this year thanks to all of his hard work with trainers and doctors.”

”He is starting his second season with the Miracle Baseball League while still working hard to regain his speech through retraining his brain. Isabella (the Ciprianos’ daughter) is thriving academically and athletically in her sophomore year at St. Catherine’s. She is preparing to be a part of a Leadership Conference Pre-College program at Vanderbilt University this summer. Out in Hollywood, Tanner (Sal’s twin brother) is a showrunner’s assistant on the show ‘Narcos’. Rose has been working out and training with friends, and we’re particularly excited to announce that she recently won the 100m backstroke at a Masters Swim Meet back in January!

“However, as great as our family is doing, we still face heavy financial burdens that include Sal’s ongoing rehabilitation, day-to-day homecare providers, and physical training (none of which is covered by insurance), and so we deeply appreciate your continued support and donations. That being said, we’re lucky to still be here with all of you and we look forward seeing all of your smiling faces and stretched hamstrings at this year’s Cipriano Classic! Thanks again for all of your love and prayers! God bless and JKLP!”

Registration, a course map, and more information are available online at ciprianoclassic.com. Race Day registration will be available on-site June 7, 4-6:30 p.m. Cost is $40, and cash, check, and credit cars will be accepted.
