Chive Kitchen, downtown Farmington’s only vegan restaurant, just celebrated three years in business at The Groves shopping center on Grand River.
Owner Suzy Silvestre said customers come not only from metro Detroit, but also other states and even Canada. She’s most proud of “the diversity of our dining room, bringing the eclectic beauty of Detroit into one small place with a common goal, to eat.”
Silvestre’s only goal was to only offer vegan dishes, but with a special twist, through her Portuguese culture and California Bay Area upbringing. Currently on the dinner menu: a Bife, traditionally served with steak and fried egg, made with portobello steaks and a vegan hollandaise sauce; and a mushroom-based Alentejano stew, playing off of the Alentejano Pork and Clams dish of Portugal.
“All of the flavors are there, as well as the love and time that goes into each dish – without the meat,” Silvestre said.
