An early Friday morning fire heavily damaged a house on Greenmeadow Circle in Farmington Hills.
Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh said a neighbor called 9-1-1 at around 5:55 a.m. to report the roof of the house was on fire. Four of the city’s five stations responded, with the first arriving at 6:03 a.m., and were on site until around 8:15 a.m.
News reports indicated that smoke could be seen miles from the area, which is east of Middlebelt Road, between 12 Mile and I-696.
The fire was contained to the attic, Unruh said, but the unoccupied house also suffered heavy water damage. Temperatures well below freezing made for slippery conditions but didn’t cause any additional problems.
“We’re in the early stages of our investigation, but there’s nothing to lead us to believe the cause was suspicious,” Unruh said, adding the cause was probably electrical. “I’m glad no one was home, and there were no injuries to our fire staff.”
