Alarms.org names Farmington, Hills among state’s top 50 safest cities

Farmington and Farmington Hills have both made alarm.org’s 2018 list of Michigan’s safest cities, ranking 30th and 41st, respectively.

The online home of the National Council for Home Safety and Security ranks cities annually based on “the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with our own population data and internal research,” according to information on the website.

The rankings are based on the number of violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people, with violent crimes weighted more heavily.

Farmington had .47 violent crimes and 11.09 property crimes per capita, and Farmington Hills had .94 violent crimes and 12.86 property crimes per capita, according to the website.

The top five ranked communities were Grosse Ile Township, Oakland Township, Hamburg Township, Brandon Township, and South Lyon.
