Harrison High complex renamed for veteran coach

Harrison High School’s athletics facility will be renamed Friday to honor the only football coach the Farmington Hills high school has ever known.

The Harrison Football Boosters will dedicate the “Herrington Athletic Complex” in honor of Head Football Coach John Herrington, with the 6:30 p.m. unveiling of an archway at the main football field entrance.

Herrington has served as head coach since the school opened in 1970. Under his leadership, teams have won 13 state championships, more than any other Michigan program. With 425 career wins, Herrington is poised this year to become the winningest coach in the history of Michigan high school football.

Many alumni are expected to attend the Friday ceremony. Farmington Hills Harrison High School is located at 29995 W. 12 Mile Rd.
