‘Rally for Farmington’ brings 200-plus acts of kindness

People wearing green t-shirts handed out lottery scratch-off tickets, picked up trash, paid overdue fines at the library, wrote notes to sick children, thanked emergency personnel, and all tolled committed more than 200 acts of kindness Saturday in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Uplifting notes were left in shopping carts, restrooms, and other locations during Rally for Farmington.

The Rally for Farmington, organized by the Farmington Area Jaycees, was part of a statewide effort that began in Redford, said Jaycees president Jaymi Dormaier. The Farmington event also included a collection for Farmington Hills-based Foster Closet of Oakland County, which provides support for foster families.

“(The Farmington turn out) was actually better than we anticipated,” she said. “This was more of a last minute idea. We thought we’d end up with just a team for the Jaycees.”

The Dodge ‘Ems, representing Carroll Electrical Group, won the local rally. Team member Jennifer Chinn said they completed their acts of kindness in a classic Dodge convertible, skipping this weekend’s Woodward Dream Cruise. Other team members were Mark Carroll, Patricia Chinn, Tim LeaTrea, and Branigan LeaTrea.
