Farmington Hills named 44th safest U.S. city

Alarms.org, the online home of the National Council for Home Safety and Security, has named Farmington Hills the 44th safest city in the United States.

The ranking is based on FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics and “our own internal research,” according to the website. Cities with populations of under 50,000 and those not submitting complete information were not included.

“The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery), property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft), and officer count,” the reported noted. Results were weighted; violent crimes accounted for the majority of the total.

West Bloomfield Township, the city’s neighbor to the north, ranked 9th. Novi, Royal Oak, Shelby Township, and Rochester Hills also placed among the top 50.
